Chefs & Shows: Pat Garland of Absinthe and You Are Happy

Last night marked the first edition of this season of Chef’s & Shows –  and what an evening it was !

If you aren’t familiar with Chefs & Shows – it’s an event that combines each main stage production at the Great Canadian Theatre with a pop up restaurant led by a renowned Ottawa chef. Each menu draws on the theme of the show to create a completely immersive experience for guests.

This time around, for GCTC’s “You Are Happy”, guests were welcomed to join other foodies & theatre goers at Absinthe. The menu, inspired by ingredients that make chef Pat Garland happy, was the perfect call back to the themes of the play which explores contemporary relationships, the plight of the millennial and ultimately what makes us happy through moments of dark comedy.

This specialty menu included an appetizer of smoked Steelhead Trout, with Gravlax and Rillettes served with Fennel Red Onion Salad, a delicious main comprised of Mariposa Farm Duck Breast, Carrot & Coriander Purée and a  Le Coprin Mushroom Ragu and finished with a Gateau Marjorlaine completed by a delicious Mocha Anglaise Raspberry Coulis for dessert.
